Pedestrian Dies In Rt. 22 Crash Thursday, Police Say

A 64-year-old pedestrian was found in the roadway by police officers early Thursday, authorities said.

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ - A 64-year-old pedestrian died Thursday as a result of a crash in Mountainside, authorities said.

At around 4:35 a.m., Mountainside police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Route 22 and New Providence Road, police said.

Officers found a 64-year-old man from Mountainside in the roadway at the scene, police said.

An initial investigation revealed the man crossed into traffic while operating a battery powered scooter and was struck by a 2016 Nissan driven by a 62-year-old woman from Plainfield, who stopped at the scene.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at Overlook Medical Center in Summit later on Thursday, police said.
