Summit Closings, Updates In Wake Of Winter Storm
A State of Emergency was declared for all of New Jersey on Friday afternoon.
SUMMIT, NJ — The City of Summit, along with much of the state, is bracing for heavy snow from Friday into Saturday and taking precautions to keep people safe.
Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency on Friday afternoon that went into effect at 1 p.m. for all of New Jersey. More than eight inches of snow is estimated to build in some areas.
Summit was already in one of 11 counties that were under a Winter Storm Warning prior to the governor's declaration.

Multiple facilities have released updated schedules for Friday and Saturday, according to an update from the City, as the Emergency Coordinator continues to work with first responders to monitor the storm.
The Summit Community Center is closed on Friday and Saturday. The Summit Free Public Library will open at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Municipal Transfer Station will be closed until noon on Saturday.
City officials remind residents to avoid driving, get the necessary medications and emergency supplies as soon as you can on Friday afternoon, keep cars in driveways during snow warnings, shovel walkways around your property within 24 hours of snowfall, and don't shovel back into the roads.
Checking in on neighbors is also encouraged, city officials said.

North Jersey
Friday: Snow likely, mainly after 5 p.m. The snow could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. North wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Friday night: Snow, possibly mixed with sleet, becoming all snow after 11 p.m. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 21. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
Saturday: A chance of snow, mainly before 9 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 30. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. Calm wind.
Sunday: A chance of rain after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
