SPD Releases Sketch of Child Luring Suspect

Police have put out a sketch today through the Nixel alert system of a suspect in an attempted child-luring incident.   on Monday. 

"The police department as well as the city's residents, want everyone, especially our children and young adults, to feel safe and secure as they walk around Summit," said Police Chief Robert Weck about releasing the sketch to the public. "We have and will continue to do everything in our power, both proactively and reactively, to ensure that."

 say the attempted luring of an 11-year-old boy occured on Friday, Dec. 16 at around 3:30p.m., near Broad Street and North Street. The after-school incident was also reported by  which forwarded the police announcement to parents.

In a , we reported that police said the boy was approached by a man in a black Ford Econoline van.

The boy told police the man posed as his ride home, and  yelled out to him, “Hey kid, come here — come here. Your dad told me to pick you up,” according to the report.

The suspect in the sketch is described as a middle-aged black male with salt-and-pepper colored goatee beard and medium to dark-colored skin. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt at the time.
