Halloween is around the corner and the Summit Police Department is giving residents' tips on trick-or-treating.

SUMMIT, NJ — Halloween is around the corner and the Summit Police Department is giving residents' tips on trick-or-treating.

Here are some tips:

For children who will be trick-or-treating:

· Consider wearing a mask that covers your mouth and nose when trick-or-treating.

· Limit your group to close contacts.

· Limit the number of homes on your route. Do not go inside homes.

· Only accept candy that is in factory sealed packaging.

· Wipe down wrapped candy before opening.

· Always be careful crossing the street, wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight.

For households:

· Turn off your porch light if you do not want trick-or-treaters.

· Stay outdoors when giving out treats.

· Consider wearing a mask over your mouth and nose when passing out candy.

· Limit close contact with trick-or-treaters.

· Arrange treats so that children may grab and go without accessing a shared bowl.

As a reminder, no one should participate in Halloween activities if they or a household member have a known exposure to COVID-19, and are sick or symptomatic, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and has not yet met the criteria for discontinuing isolation.
