Matt Wholey, class of 2010 from Summit High School, and a recent graduate of University of Colorado, has traveled to rural Kenya to work in the orphanage called “ Arrive in Kenya.”

“Arrive” as the locals call it, is located in Kiski, Kenya. It has 41 orphaned children, and provides 3 meals a day, schooling, and a home. The children are rescued from the streets where the were abandoned due to war, HIV, or poverty. Some of the children had been sleeping in garbage sites, and had not slept on a bed for years.

Matt became interested in Arrive through a fraternity brother who started the orphanage three years ago. He sold all of his college stuff, and saved to travel to Kenya after graduation. His goals were to install solar panels and buy pigs in order to create a steady stream of income for the kids.

The pig enclosure has been built, and this week all 41 kids are walking to a near by farm to pick up the 8 pigs they have purchased. Matt has raised over $6000 on his GoFundMe account, yet his goal is to raise $10,000. in order to complete his projects.

Matt has a GoFundMe account where you can see amazing pictures of kids’ lives being transformed, and the pig enclosure that he designed and built. It is an amazing story of how hard work and the joy of giving can change a few children’s lives.

Matt Wholey is making Summit residents proud!
