Summit's Free Market To Open Extra Day Next Week: See When

Summit's monthly sustainability market will be open for pursuing on a weekday this month, city officials said.

SUMMIT, NJ - Summit’s monthly sustainability market will be open for pursuing on a weekday this month, city officials said.

The free market, which is typically held on the second Saturday of each month, will also be open on Friday, Feb. 24 from noon to 2 p.m., city officials said.

The free market, which allows residents to donate and take yard-sale quality items such as sports equipment, outdoor furniture, appliances, and kids toys at no charge, will be held at the transfer station (40 New Providence Avenue).

“We aim to make Summit a more sustainable, environmentally-friendly town and focus on the sense of community and giving back through this popular and successful community reuse initiative,” the free market says on its website. “We work with a growing team of dedicated student and adult volunteers who want to help the environment and the Summit community.”

Residents must have a permit to access the transfer station to attend. Summit residents can get a permit online or in-person at the Parking Services Agency at City Hall (512 Springfield Avenue).

Over 600 residents have participated in the volunteer-run program since its debut in 2008, with roughly 160 tons of reusable material salvaged and $25,000 saved in garbage tipping fees.
