Update On Health Concerns That Closed Union County Library

Treatments are being carried out both on and off-site.

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Free Public Library is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 25 after treatment for bed bugs.

The facility was closed on Oct. 10 after the bugs were found on a small number of upholstered chairs, the city says.

Programs scheduled at the library are now being held at the Summit Community Center located at 100 Morris Ave. over the next week while further treatments are taking place.

"We took immediate action to protect our patrons, staff, and collections, working with certified experts to ensure the building is safe, clean, and ready to welcome the community back," library staff added.

Professional treatments will be carried out between Oct. 17 and Oct. 24. All upholstered chairs will be removed for off-site fumigation, the library says.
