Filmmaking Workshop Planned in Teaneck

Middle school science teachers turned filmmakers to teach at the May 15 program

The following announcement was submitted by the Teaneck Community Education Center:

The Teaneck International Film Festival and Teaneck Community Education Center will present a one-session workshop on the art of filmmaking with Michael Miceli and Michael Valentino, friends, filmmakers, and Teaneck middle school science teachers; on Wednesday, May 15th, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at the high school.  The workshop, which costs just $5, is open to non-residents as well as residents, and to interested adults as well as high school students.

The two men, who met as teachers and discovered that they share an interest in film, produced and in the 2011 Los Angeles Comedy Festival.  The film had its New Jersey premiere in Ridgewood last spring and was shown again at TIFF 2012 in November.  Miceli, who wrote and directed it, and Valentino, who composed the music and produced the film, will break down a scene to provide students with an introduction to the many elements involved in the three phases of filmmaking:  pre-production, production, and post-production.  The workshop will include finding inspiration, formatting a script and creating a scene, visual storytelling and using story boards, blocking a scene and bringing it to life, and editing.
