Fort Lee Man Lost Part Of Kidney In Stabbing: Bergen County Prosecutor

A man stabbed a victim in Fort Lee, causing him to lose part of a kidney, prosecutors said. A jury returned a verdict.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Fort Lee man was convicted Wednesday of stabbing another man, forcing the victim to lose part of his kidney, prosecutors said.

In the early morning hours of Aug. 5, 2023, according to Bergen County prosecutors, Freddy Pina approached the victim outside Pina's home and stabbed him with a seven-inch knife, "eviscerating him."

One of the victim's kidneys had to be partially removed as a result, prosecutors said on Thursday.

A two-week trial that began on Sept. 23 in Bergen County Superior Court ended with a jury finding Pina guilty on Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said that Pina turned himself in to police two hours after the attack, and the knife was found in his home.

Pina was convicted of second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon with the purpose to use unlawfully against another, and fourth-degree possession of a weapon.

Pina is scheduled to be sentenced in December, prosecutors said.
