Fundraiser Saturday For Teaneck Family Devastated by Blaze
Mother and young children forced from their home after two-alarm fire

A local childcare center is raising money for the Teaneck family whose home was destroyed in a two-alarm blaze on Ester Avenue in March, organizers announced.
Guliana Tolay woke up to the sound of smoke alarms early March 2 and found thick smoke filling her home. The family of five, including two her two young children, escaped without serious injury, but flames gutted the two-family house, she said.
Since the fire, Tolay managed to find a new rental home in town after staying in her mother's basement.

"I love Teaneck," she said. "I didn't want to move to another town."
Family members have assisted, but what Tolay said she misses most are the personal keepsakes destroyed in the blaze. Tolay said she's now focused on helping her children adjust after the family lost everything.

"My daughter is still having nightmares," she said. "She remembers every single little thing."
The fundraiser on Saturday is being organized by the Whitley Learning Center. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 569 Linden Avenue.
"It's an emotionally and financially difficult time for the family and your help is appreciated," the organization said.
Officials have said the flames started in an upstairs kitchen area and the fire left five people hospitalized. Tolay praised the efforts of Teaneck firefighters who managed to rescue her dog Lulu following an extensive search. A neighbor, Cathy Carratura, also rushed to aid other occupants of the home forced outside in the frigid weather.
In the weeks ahead, Tolay said her focus was on her children.
"I have my kids," she said. "I have to be strong for them."
