Trinidad Family Crash Survivor Being Moved To NJ Facility

Mary Rose Ballocanag survived the crash that killed her husband, Audie Marquez Trinidad, and their 4 kids in Delaware July 6.

TEANECK, NJ — Funeral arrangements are still pending for the five members of the Trinidad family who died in a horrific car crash July 6.

The lone survivor of the family, mother Mary Rose Ballocanag, is helping coordinate funeral arrangements for her husband, Audie Marquez Trinidad, 61, and their four daughters, Kaitlyn, 20, Danna, 17, and 13-year-old twins, Melissa and Allison.

A notice on the Zuasola-Grillo Filipino Funeral Service states that services have not yet been announced for the family.

Ballocanag's recovery is "much improved" and she will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility in New Jersey, family friend Linda Douglas said on a GoFundMe page she set up to help pay for funeral and other expenses.

More than $270,000 has been donated to the family in the nine days since the GoFundMe campaign began.

Following the crash and learning that her family died, Ballocanag told her aunt she was "alone."

Audie Trinidad grew up in the Philippines and, in 1987, he came to the United States when he enlisted in the Navy and served for seven years, according to The Record. "He was proud to be an American," said his brother, Danny, told the publication. "That's why he joined the Navy."

Kaitlyn and Dana were both setters on the Teaneck High School head volleyball team, according to the publication. "They were both great players who were loved by all of their teammates," Teaneck head coach Sue Cipriano told nj.com.

"You wish every player had their work ethic and worked to the best of their ability like those two ... They were some of the hardest working girls I've ever coached. Everyone needs to know how truly amazing they were."

The family was killed when a their 1998 Toyota Sienna minivan collided with a Ford F-350 that crossed over a center median from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes on Route 1 in Townsend, Delaware State Police previously said.

The Ford's driver, Alvin S. Hubbard Jr., 44, was treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash. Police have not said what exactly may have caused Hubbard to veer into the other lanes of traffic. Authorities are still investigating the crash.
