GoFundMe Launched For Teaneck High Alumni Shot In Philly
Family and friends in Teaneck say Greg Garner was shot last month in Philadelphia. The shooting, they say, left him in critical condition.
TEANECK, NJ — The family of a Teaneck man has launched an online fundraiser to help pay for his medical bills following a shooting that landed him in the hospital and in critical condition a month ago.
On Sept. 14, multiple news outlets reported that a man was driving a Jeep when he was shot in the chest and legs in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. The victim was found lying near an apartment on Rittenhouse Street, not far from the vehicle, police said.
According to friends, the shooting victim is 28-year-old Greg Garner. He remains hospitalized in an intensive care unit. Garner is a graduate of Teaneck High School.

"Greg was an All-County football prospect at Teaneck and graduated in 2011. His family are long-term residents of the area and remain here," a friend, who asked to remain anonymous, told Patch.
Garner's family recently launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical bills, rehabilitation, loss in wages and moving expenses. As of Thursday, the online fundraiser has generated more than $5,400 from more than 80 people. The family hopes to raise $50,000.

"He has undergone three life-saving surgeries thus far and still has a long recovery ahead of him. This will be a long and difficult recovery for Greg both physically and mentally," his family posted on the GoFundMe page. "While we have come to accept that life will never be the same for Greg, we want to take some of the financial stress away so he can focus on recovery."
The motive for the shooting remains unclear and no arrests in the case have been announced.
