Got Drugs? Teaneck Police to Collect Medications

Program aims to keep unwanted medicines out of the wrong hands

The Teaneck Police Department this weekend will offer residents the chance to safely turn in unwanted medications.

The Drug Enforcement Administration-sponsored program, called the “National Take Back Initiative,” will be held on April 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Police Headquarters.

Authorities previously collected 12,464 pounds of unwanted medications in New Jersey alone, according to police. Nationwide, the program netted 376,593 pounds of unused, expired and unwanted medicines.

“The goal of the program is to allow the citizens of New Jersey to rid their homes of unused, unwanted, or expired medications by turning these medications in to law enforcement officials who can in turn dispose of these controlled substances in a safe and non-hazardous manner, preventing these pills from falling into the hands of juveniles or into the illicit market in our communities,” a statement said.
