Hit-And-Run Victim In Lyndhurst Identified As Local Man

A pedestrian, 57 was killed Thursday evening in Lyndhurst, prosecutors said, and the driver is being sought.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Lyndhurst Thursday night was identified by prosecutors as a local man.

George Arnold, 57, of Lyndhurst was the victim, said the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.

Friends in Rutherford mourned his loss on a Rutherford Facebook page.

"One of the nicest humans you could ever know," wrote one commenter.

Lyndhurst Police were dispatched to Ridge Road and Milton Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday after receiving a call that a pedestrian was struck by a car. The area is a residential neighborhood across from St. Joseph's Cemetery and near the NJ Transit train station.

"Upon arrival, officers determined that the vehicle involved left the scene of the collision," prosecutors said. "The pedestrian who was struck was subsequently pronounced deceased."

Prosecutors and police are investigating, but no details were released about the person or car. They will release details "when possible," they said.
