24-Year-Old Man Questioned By Police Jumps Into Hackensack River, Swims Away: Officials
Several agencies responded to a water rescue in Hackensack River, after a man dove in while being questioned by police, authorities said.
HACKENSACK, NJ — A 24-year-old Teaneck man who was being questioned by police dove into the Hackensack River and began to swim toward Costco Business Center Friday afternoon in Hackensack, officials said.
Several units, including the Bergen County Regional SCUBA Task Force, responded to assist in removing the man from the river, and were able to do so without incident, the Hackensack fire department said in a Facebook post.
Apparently, the man was "quite a distance from the shore," a Teaneck firefighters union said on Facebook, sharing photos of the incident.

Boats were deployed to remove him, and he was treated by emergency personnel and then transported to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center for evaluation, Hackensack Police Detective Lt. Michael Antista said.
Additional resources were called in as a precaution, in case the incident escalated, the Hackensack fire department added.
