Parent of Bullied Child Files Suit Against Teaneck School District

The parent alleges that administrators failed to respond to the incidents in accordance with the 2010 Anti-Bully Bill of Rights Act.

The parent of a former Teaneck middle school student has sued the district for its failure to respond to the bullying suffered by the child. The district allegedly failed to investigate and report the Thomas Jefferson Middle School incidents in the time frame required by the New Jersey Anti-Bully Bill of Rights Act.

According to the family’s lawsuit, the student is a member of a protected class “with regard to race and speech disability.” The child reportedly endured months of physical beatings during recess during the 2012-2013 school year, but school administrators failed to note the incidents as bullying. The alleged assailants were of a different race than the child, according to the suit.

The suit was filed in Superior Court in Hackensack.
