PHOTOS: TCC to Celebrate Fycke Lane Project

The Teaneck Creek Conservancy submitted the following news: 

The Teaneck Creek Conservancy will celebrate the opening of The Fycke Lane Interpretive Project on Earth Day, April 22. 

The project was conceived in 2003 with the major objective of ongoing participation by the neighboring schools and continuous engagement with the community. This major, 350 foot long northern public face of the Teaneck Creek Conservancy on Fycke Lane is a primary “connect point” for the Conservancy’s mission of education, community eco-art and rehabilitation of this 46-acre former dump site.

With a 2011 grant from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Teaneck Creek was able to undertake the building of a low recycled stone wall by a local craftsperson/mason. The wall is embellished with ceramic native fish reliefs and metal plaques etched with poetry and images of personal “transformations” by local students. Eight low profile panels carrying narrative and illustrations outlining the environmental and cultural history of the site.

A breakfast is planned on Earth Day to celebrate the opening. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, at TCC’s Fycke Lane Entrance located opposite .

Highlights of the morning include:

•  View our new 350 foot wall made from recycled stone affixed with ceramic bricks with native fish reliefs created by students as well as narrative art collages   outlining the  environmental and cultural history of the site.

•  The International Banners exhibition featuring banners by Teaneck students and selections of environmental art banners by students from Peru and China.

•  Guided hikes beginning every 15 minutes

•  A complimentary breakfast catered by Whole Foods Market Edgewater

•  Musical performance

•  Arts and Crafts demonstrations

•  Anthony Santella wood carving demonstrations in the labyrinth

•  Opening of Windows on the Park III in the Black Walnut Meadow

•  No reservation necessary
