Local scouts prepare gifts, well wishes for U.S. troops.

Girl scouts from across Teaneck came together this week to make cards and write letters for U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan through the national Adopt-a-Soldier program.

The girls packed Monday night to work on the cards and package cookies for troops serving in the 82nd Airborne. In all, Teaneck’s scouts packed at least 250 boxes for the soldiers.

“It’s a morale boost,” said Kimberly Daves, project manager for the Adopt-a-Soldier platoon. “It shows [the troops] that people back home are thinking of them when they’re deployed.”

Daves, who first became involved with Adopt-a-Soldier after her brother was deployed, praised the turnout in Teaneck.

“I think it’s amazing,” she said of the crowd.

Ellen Krischer, a parent with Troop 61, said the event brought together scouts from different schools and ages.

“The girls were really excited that this year they had an opportunity to donate to the troops,” she said.
