Suggested Precautions

1. Secure Doors and Windows: Always lock doors and windows when leaving your. home, even for a short time. Consider installing deadbolt locks and using security bars on accessible windows.
2. Use Motion-Sensor Lights: Motion-sensor lights around your property can deter burglars by making it more difficult for them to approach without being noticed. Timer-activated lights can ensure your home is properly illuminated in the event you return home after dark.
3. Install a Security System: A visible security system or cameras can be a strong deterrent for potential burglars. If you have surveillance cameras, ensure they are functional and positioned to cover entrances and pathways to your home.
4. Neighborhood Watch: Stay connected with your neighbors. Alert each other about any suspicious activity and report it to the police immediately. Remember, if you see something, say something.
5. Do Not Leave Valuables in Plain Sight: Avoid leaving valuable items in view from windows. Keep expensive jewelry, electronics, and important documents out of sight or in a secure location.
6. Be Cautious When Hiring Contractors: Always verify the credentials and references of contractors or workers who have access to your property. Keep track of who enters your home and when.
