We asked Patch readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

  • "Having two firefighters with no fire officer riding the ladder truck. National standards are a minimum of four."
  • "Having a telephonic recall system for recalling firefighters in an emergency. The same system that was used in the 1950s."
  • "Taking a fire engine company out of the Windsor road station and replacing it with a two-man ladder company. This is gambling with people's lives. Plain and simple."
  • "Having firefighters working in an asbestos-contaminated fire station and not telling them about it."
  • "Cedar Ln- we need more white lines for pedestrians. Also, on Queen Ann Ave., the intersection coming out of Route 4 by the bridge should have a full stop or a light."
  • "The Teaneck armory should have some type of safety, either a fence or a guard to watch the building. It's very easy for anyone to come into the building. Also, the public buses should not be coming through the armory parking lot and driving inside as if it was a high-speed chase."
