Press release:
Marking steps is a standard practice during dance rehearsals - but not so for the Teaneck Terpsys.
The second month of the New Year is upon us and means one thing for students interested in dance – Terpsy time! The theme for 2015 is “Get on Up and Dance,” which focuses on the dance styles of James Brown as well as highlighting dance videos from the 1980s to the present. Homages are being paid to performers like Michael Jackson and his hit “Dangerous”, MC Hammer who took dance to a whole new level with “Too Legit to Quit” and hit girls and guys group like Envogue and Bell Biv DeVoe.

As expected, there will be a repertoire section including crowd favorites such as Magic Bird, Right On Be Free, Rainbow and Brothas to name a few. New expressions of dance will be performed as a tribute to Maya Angelou and others through various techniques of Afro-Brazilian themed dance, tap, modern, contemporary jazz and hip hop.
Fourty-four years in the making and the Terpsy program only gets better with each performance. Many former Terpsys work with the program in various capacities such as choreographers, rehearsal director, music management, and marketing confirming the ancient African Proverb “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child.” The former Teaneck graduates/talented professionals lend their talent to pay it forward to each and every student who has a desire to learn the technique of dance. The students learn more than dance as they practice 4-5 days per week. They learn about self-esteem, healthy competition and elements of the evolution of civil rights as the group is showcased during Black History Month.
