Woman Dragged In Knifepoint Kidnapping Attempt In Bergen County: Police

A 52-year-old woman was robbed at knifepoint and then dragged down the street in an attempted kidnapping Monday in Hackensack, police said.

HACKENSACK, NJ — A 52-year-old woman was robbed at knifepoint and then dragged down the street in an attempted kidnapping on Monday in Hackensack, city Detective Captain Michael Antista said.

Esben Sarabe, 20, of Hackensack, approached the woman who was walking alone in the area of First Street and Passaic Street, and held a knife to her body. He then started to forcibly remove her from the area on foot to another location within the city, Antista said.

A "good Samaritan," Antista said, saw the struggle and called the police.

Sarabe ran away with the victim's phone and bag, and was apprehended a short time later on Anderson Street, police said.

The victim was unharmed, and the proceeds and knife were recovered, police said.

Sarabe was arrested on charges of kidnapping, armed robbery and possession of a weapon. He was transported to the Bergen county Jail.
