10-Mile Backup On Parkway After Crash, Side Roads Jammed In Ocean County

The crash near Exit 80 has snarled traffic on multiple roads including downtown Toms River as people try to avoid the area.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A motor vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway southbound near milemarker 80 is causing snarls and jams on multiple roads Thursday evening, according to authorities.

The Parkway is jammed from milemarker 80 back to Brick Township, according to 511nj.org, the state Department of Transportation traffic website.

The 10-1/2-mile backup on the Parkway is snarling traffic on Route 166 in Toms River, where the NJDOT says the travel time from the area of the Parkway to Route 9 in Beachwood is 25 to 30 minutes.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office say other roads downtown are affected as well as motorists try to avoid the crash area and the jam. Route 571 is affected in addition to Main Street and Route 9, the sheriff's office said.
