3 Hurt As Crash Brings Down Wires On Bay Avenue In Toms River

Numerous summonses were issued to the driver in the crash that disrupted traffic on Bay Avenue on Friday.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Three people were injured early Friday when a vehicle ran off the road and hit a utility pole on Bay Avenue, police said.

Tyjir Wiggs, 20, from the Bronx, New York, and two passengers in his car were taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.

He was driving east on Bay Avenue when he ran off the road and hit the pole just west of Oak Avenue, police said. The pole cracked at the base, bringing power lines down in the road, forcing a partial closure of the road until the lines and pole could be repaired.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Accurate Towing, and numerous summonses were issued to Wiggs, police said.

The crash is being investigated by Toms River Police Traffic Officer Gambardella.
