MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township man was killed Monday evening when he was hit by two vehicles after his bike fell over in the road, police said.

Joseph Slover, 54, of the Whiting section, was riding his electric bicycle west on Route 530 just before 7 p.m. Monday when he fell over in the road near Whiting Memorial Park at 600 Route 530, Capt. Vincent Manco said.

He died at the scene, Manco said.

After he fell over, Slover was hit by a gold 2004 Ford Taurus driven by Dylan Coyle, 28, of Whiting, and then by a green 2008 Nissan Sentra driven by Gary Paszek, 70, of Toms River, both of whom were headed west on Route 530, Manco said. Neither suffered physical injuries, Manco said.

The Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, emergency medical technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital responded, along with detectives from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit and a representative from the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, Manco said.

The investigation is continuing but low-light conditions and driver error on the part of the bicyclist appeared to be the primary contributing factors, Manco said.

Patrolman Michael O’Hara and Patrolman Brendan Brush are investigating.
