Funnel Cloud Spotted Over Jersey Shore During Tuesday Storm

SEASIDE PARK, NJ - A large funnel cloud was seen spinning over Ocean County during a thunderstorm Tuesday afternoon at the Jersey Shore, according to a video posted to Twitter.

The funnel cloud was spotted in Seaside Park, according to a video posted shortly before 4 p.m. by Twitter user @jackderkaiser, who describes himself as a “wannabe storm chaser.”

Forecasters say there were no signs of a tornado touching down anywhere near the Jersey Shore Tuesday.

“There was some very weak rotation on radar at the time, but there have been no reports or pictures of any ground circulations,” the National Weather Service said of Tuesday’s storm, according to NJ.com. A request for comment from the weather service was not immediately returned.

Tuesday saw fierce winds in parts of Ocean and Cape May counties with gusts up to 40 mph; a flash flood warning was also in effect for Long Branch, Tinton Falls and Eatontown Tuesday evening.

Toms River and parts of the Monmouth County bayshore also saw over 2 inches of precipitation Tuesday, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection rainfall map.

The harsh weather subsided Tuesday evening just in time for the sunset in Toms River, according to one Twitter user:
