Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Date Moved In More Ocean County Towns

The storm bringing rain and strong winds to the area prompted Toms River to move its trick-or-treating, and other towns have followed suit.

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — Four Ocean County towns that had planned to hold trick-or-treating on Thursday night have moved it to Saturday.

South Toms River, Beachwood, Pine Beach and Island Heights have all moved trick-or-treating to Saturday, Nov. 1.

Toms River Mayor Daniel Rodrick announced on Tuesday evening that trick-or-treating would be moved to Saturday in that town out of a concern about safety because of strong winds forecast as part of the nor'easter moving through the region Wednesday and Thursday.

South Toms River announced the change Wednesday morning in a Nixle alert. Beachwood announced the change via its social media, and Pine Beach posted a notice on the borough's website.

Those three towns are part of the Toms River Regional School District and usually cooperate on Halloween festivities, including avoiding scheduling items on Halloween because of the Toms River Fire Company 1 Halloween parade, which draws the participation of the district's marching bands.

Island Heights, tucked along the banks of the Toms River and surrounded by Toms River Township, also moved its trick-or-treating to Saturday, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office said.

None of the towns have set hours for trick-or-treating on Saturday. Beachwood Mayor William Cairns said the suggested hours in that borough are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Beachwood has a 9 p.m. curfew for kids under age 18.
