Man Kidnapped Woman At Knifepoint At Toms River Aldi: Police

The man, who was an acquaintance of the woman, assaulted her and left her unconscious, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A man has been charged with kidnapping and assault in an attack on a woman in the parking lot at Aldi on Sunday, Toms River police said Monday.

Luis Morenogutierrez, 21, has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, police said.

Police were called to Aldi at 86 Route 70, next to Tractor Supply, shortly before 7 p.m. for a report of a disturbance and learned the woman had been kidnapped at knifepoint by Morenogutierrez, whom she knew.

The woman was assaulted and left unconscious at a different location, police said. She was treated at a hospital for her injuries, police said.

Morenogutierrez fled and was arrested by the Englewood Police Department, Toms River police said.

He is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
