TOMS RIVER, NJ — A five-car crash on Route 9 caused traffic headaches for drivers in Toms River Thursday morning, and the road has reopened. Police said a southbound driver struck a utility pole, causing wires to fall over the road.
The southbound driver "was allegedly blinded by a northbound vehicle’s headlights," police said Thursday afternoon. The driver struck the pole in front of 1380 Route 9 and the pole was destroyed, said Toms River police. A driver in each lane was unable to stop before hitting the poles and debris, police added.
Two other southbound drivers collided, as well, resulting in one passenger going to the hospital for head pain. All five vehicles were damaged, and two vehicles had to be towed, said police.
