Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity partners with The Home Depot Foundation to help a local homeowner

This grant is supporting military veterans and their families.

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (December 1, 2025) – Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity worked alongside Veda, the widow of an Army veteran, to improve her home through Habitat for Humanity’s Repair Corps program. Funded by The Home Depot Foundation, Repair Corps has helped build or improve the homes and lives of more than 1,800 U.S. military veterans and their family members through critical home repairs.

Veda had been living with a broken exterior door that let in cold drafts and left her feeling unsafe in her own home. With support from The Home Depot Foundation, Home Depot associates replaced the damaged door on Veterans Day, bringing warmth, safety, and peace of mind back to her home. Projects like these address critical safety needs for veterans and surviving spouses, allowing them to remain in safe, stable homes.

"Approximately 33,000 veterans don’t have a safe place to sleep or call home, and more than 2.75 million live in inadequate housing. This year marks the 15th year of the Foundation’s annual veteran service campaign, reflecting our long-standing commitment to serving those who have served us. We are so proud that this past Veteran's Day, The Home Depot Foundation announced more than $30 million in new grants to support veteran housing. " Sean Vissar, Manager of National Programs and Strategies, The Home Depot Foundation.

The repair at Veda’s home took place in a quiet, established mobile home community where many residents are aging in place and living on limited incomes. The new door will help secure the home, improve energy efficiency, and restore the sense of comfort she had lost.
