Ocean County Artists Guild’s APRIL ART SHOW
Gallery 1. Louise Giovinazzo both found her calling and fell in love when she discovered sumi-e painting, a simple yet elegant technique that captures and highlights the beautiful lines found in nature. Artists employ the “four treasures” to bring the world’s beauty to life: rice paper or Kami, a tapered painted brush called a Fude, the Suzari stone and an ink stick—the Sumi. More than a dozen of her elegant flower paintings are on display.
Gallery 2. Dan Epstein is a photojournalist whose portraits are known for their warmth and intimacy. For almost half a century his newsmagazine photo credits have included Fortune, the New York Times Magazine, People, Money, Entertainment Weekly and many others. Items from two of his collections are on display in April: The Unscripted Portrait Project and Mothers and Fathers. Having received no posing instructions, his subjects, adults and children, drop any pretenses and fleetingly reveal much about themselves and their relationships.

Pop-Up Gallery. Paul Miller traveled much in the territories that were once the Roman Empire and became enamored of the simple style of late Roman/early Byzantine mosaics. “The delightful experience of seeing such works in situ pushed me to make similar works of my own. Using marble, Venetian glass, vitreous glass and gold leaf, I have learned the mosaic-making process by first producing reproductions, then by creating my own works while retaining the techniques used in the originals.”
