TOMS RIVER, NJ — An in-person information session on the plans for environmental projects at the former Ciba-Geigy site is being hosted by BASF tonight, March 5, at Toms River Intermediate North.

The session, which runs until 8 p.m. initially announced in January had been set for Feb. 28 but was pushed back by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

BASF is doing the restoration projects on a portion of the former Ciba-Geigy site as part of a natural resources settlement with the state Department of Environmental Protection. Ciba-Geigy, a Superfund site, was a dumping ground for toxic chemicals in the 1970s (and earlier) that ended up contaminating some of the water in the area. Cleanup of the site, supervised by the Environmental Protection Agency, is ongoing.

BASF is conducting a survey about the proposed projects. More information is on webpages dedicated to the project.
