Flooding Closes Part Of NJ-35 In Toms River, Creeps Up Streets In Lavallette

A slow-moving coastal storm is creating traffic headaches in parts of Toms River and Lavallette on Friday.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Flooding on NJ-35 is making driving difficult Friday in Toms River Township, which has seen more than two inches of rain from a coastal storm.

According to 511nj.org, all lanes of NJ-35 southbound are closed, from Strickland Boulevard to north of Kittiwake Avenue in Chadwick Beach. Traffic is being detoured to the northbound side of the roadway as of 2:47 p.m., per 511nj.

There is also flooding on NJ-35 northbound south of Kittiwake Avenue to Strickland Boulevard. Lanes are shifting to accommodate traffic.

Toms River Police asked drivers to use caution, "as flooding may continue throughout the remainder of the day."

"Do not drive through flooded roadways," police said, "please find an alternate route."

A coastal flood warning is in effect until 5 p.m. Friday for Ocean County.
