Solar Panels Catch Fire On Roof Of Toms River Home

The fire was quickly extinguished, a Toms River fire official said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The roof of a home was damaged when several of its solar panels caught fire, a Toms River fire official said.

The fire at a home on Mapletree Road was reported at 2:09 p.m. Monday, said Matthew Janora, chief inspector with the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Arriving firefighters found four solar panels on the roof on fire at the two-story home, Janora said.

"Crews utilized one 1-3/4-inch hose line to extinguish the fire and contained the damage to the solar panels on the roof of the home," he said.

It took the crews about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries, he said.

The fire is under investigation by Inspector LaVigne of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention but it appears to be accidental, Janora said.

Responding were the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department, the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department, the East Dover Fire Company, Toms River Fire Company 2, the Toms River Police Department and Toms River Police EMS.
