Teen Charged With Attempted Murder In Shooting At Toms River Home
The 18-year-old is accused of brandishing a handgun then firing a shot through the back door of the victim's home, Toms River police said.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River 18-year-old has been charged with attempted murder after shooting at a person through the back door of a home as a result of a dispute, police said Tuesday.
Asheer Johnson, 18, is accused of firing at the male victim and of threatening a second male victim with a handgun, Toms River Lt. Gene Bachonski said.
Police were called at 10:47 a.m. to a home on Oxford Street and the victim told police Johnson, whom he knew, came to the house and brandished a handgun after banging on the front door, then went around to the back door, where the victim heard a loud bang. He ran upstairs and called police, Bachonski said.

The police officers who responded found what appeared to be a bullet hole in the rear storm door, and found the bullet had gone through the storm door and lodged in a downstairs door of the home, he said. The shell casing was found on the back patio, Bachonski said.
The victim, who was not identified, told police he knew Johnson.

Police were also contacted by a resident on Irving Place, who told police he was threatened with a handgun by a man fitting Johnson's description, he said.
Police arrested Johnson at his home, and seized an unregistered firearm from his home, Bachonski said.
Johnson is being held on charges of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, aggravated assault and possession of hollow-point bullets.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI and Toms River Detectives assisted in the investigation.
