OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — Perhaps it's the heat. Or perhaps people just want to do something joyful. Either way, there's a lot of "Christmas in July" events this weekend. Check out this list of goings-on in Ocean County.
Christmas music and laser light shows
The Robert J. Novins Planetarium at Ocean County College is breaking out the holiday music with a pair of laser light shows on Saturday. Laser Holidays starts at noon and features a lights show with classic holiday favorites like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," modern hits such as "Jingle Bell Rock" and unique renditions of timeless songs. At 2 p.m. it's "Let It Snow," an animated show with classics such as “Let It Snow,” “Run Rudolph Run,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Holly Jolly Christmas,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” and a multimedia finale by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

Jen's Links at LBI is finishing its Christmas in July toy drive event benefiting The Toy Run Foundation. Bring an unused, unopened toy and you can play absolutely FREE. The event begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at the course, 501 Broadway, Barnegat Light. A special guest appearance by Santa is expected to top it all off.
Ocean Gate EMS is holding a Christmas in July Pet and Craft Fair 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Willis Jones First Aid Park, East Cape May Avenue in Ocean Gate. Bounce houses, vendors, food trucks, face painting and more. $2 or donation for a food bank. Children 12 and under free.
The Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department is holding its Beach Ball-a-palooza Friday at the parks department's Bayfront fields, 1198 Bandon Road, Toms River. Food trucks, nature walks, a magician, music by Jimmy and the Parrots and a kids' take-home craft bag. The event is 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
If vintage toys take you back to happy childhood memories, come check them out Sunday at the Jersey Shore Toy Show. The show is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center, 815 Route 37 West, Toms River. Show featuring 50 tables of vintage and collectible toys, vintage and current action figures, 1000s of Funko POP! vinyl figures, comic books, video games, records, and pop culture memorabilia. Admission $3, early buyers can get in at 8 a.m. for $10.
