TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two lanes of Route 37 eastbound will be closed until about 7 a.m. Thursday due to a water main break, authorities said Wednesday evening.

One lane of traffic was getting by the area of the break on the exit ramp from Route 37 to Whittier Avenue, the New Jersey Department of Transportation website's camera shows as of 5 p.m.

The diner and Bubblez Car Wash are both affected by the water main break, said John Passuth, a spokesman for Veolia.

The break in the 12-inch water main is right in front of the Toms River Diner property. No residential customers are affected, he said.

Veolia crews were assessing the break and would begin the repairs as soon as they have it assessed, he said.

In addition to Veolia, crews from JF Kiely are on the scene to repair pavement that has buckled from the water main break, and the state Department of Transportation is on the scene as well, Toms River Lt. Gene Bachonski said.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area of the break if at all possible.
