SEA BRIGHT, NJ — In preparation for the upcoming storm and potential coastal flooding, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Borough of Sea Bright are teaming up to open a Fill-Your-Own-Sandbag Station for residents.

From 12-5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, the station will be open at 1097 Ocean Avenue, Sea Bright, and available to all Monmouth County residents.

At the station, sand and bags will be available on-site, though residents are asked to bring their own shovel and transportation for filled bags.

During storms, sandbags can be used as a flood prevention method, where residents use the bags to build barriers to help divert and stop water from getting inside vulnerable doors and around foundations.

“The MSCO OEM urges residents to stay alert, stay prepared, and monitor official channels for weather updates and safety information,” the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office said in an online post.

Moving into the weekend, forecasters are predicting a dangerous nor’easter to reach the Garden State with 60 MPH winds, moderate to major coastal flooding and several inches of heavy rain.

While the storm’s exact track and intensity are still uncertain, forecasters said even a weaker storm could still have significant impacts along the shoreline.

"This will be a damaging storm for some along the Atlantic coast," AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said.

The immediate shore is most at risk with this storm, forecasters warn.

With tides expected to reach 1-3 feet above normal, a Coastal Flood Watch has been put in place from Sunday morning through Monday evening in Monmouth County, as well as Cumberland, Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean, Southeastern Burlington and Middlesex Counties.
