Wall Police, Firefighters Rescue Dog Trapped Under Deck

Ozzy found his way under the deck behind the home, but couldn't find his way back out. That's where his rescuers came in.

WALL, NJ — They heard Ozzy, whining, stuck and trying to find a way out of the pickle he'd gotten himself in.

That's when they called for help. And help came: Wall Township police and members of the South Wall Fire Department, who freed Ozzy from his predicament.

Wall Capt. Greg Carpino said police were called about 11 a.m. on Wednesday to a home on Marigold Avenue for a dog that was trapped under a deck and some dirt. The caller told police the dog could be heard whimpering, and appeared to be having a hard time breathing, Carpino said.

Ozzy had managed to crawl under a deck at the back of the hom and was stuck under some dirt when Patrolmen Tom Dowd and Jack Gramlich arrived, Carpino said. With the help of members Chris Tamayo and Mark Pellecchia Jr. of the fire department, they started taking the boards off the deck and were able to free Ozzy, who was dirty but otherwise unharmed, Carpino said.

Afterward, Ozzy posed with his rescuers, Dowd, Gramlich, Tamayo and Pellecchia.
