High Winds Topple Trees, Power Lines In Warren

King George Road south of Washington Valley Road in Warren is closed due to down tree and power lines, police said Thursday.

WARREN, NJ — As a severe thunderstorm begins to roll in, high winds are already impacting Warren on Thursday.

Warren Police sent out an alert around 4 p.m. warning drivers to avoid King George Road south of Washington Valley Road due to a downed tree and power lines.

The road is closed between Washington Valley Road and Hunters Trail.

Thursday Afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 72. Breezy, with a south wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m., then a chance of showers. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Low around 50. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
