Somerset County Couple Scammed Out Of Life Savings, Fundraiser Started
Bob and Eileen Filoramo's children started the GoFundMe after their parents "fell victim to a devastating and highly sophisticated scam."
WARREN, NJ — Children of a Warren Township couple have started a fundraiser after their parents were targeted by scammers "who used psychological manipulation, fear, and precision to steal a huge portion of their life savings — money they spent a lifetime building."
Bob and Eileen Filoramo’s children, Mark Filoramo and Katie Sanchez, launched the GoFundMe fundraising website to help "two of the most incredible people we’ve ever known — our parents."
Warren Township Police Lt. Ronald Roselli confirmed to Patch that the Filoramos reported the scam to the police department on Aug. 30, and a detective was assigned to the matter.

"Being that it’s an active investigation, I cannot supply the police reports or details as to not jeopardize the case," said Roselli.
Bob Filoramo was a lifelong school teacher who recently celebrated his 85th birthday in June. Eileen was Bob's biggest supporter and the steady heart of their family.

"They’ve never been wealthy, but they’ve always been rich in love, generosity, and integrity. They’ve worked hard, saved carefully, and lived simply, with the hope of retiring peacefully and enjoying the years they’ve earned," said the Filoramo children.
It is unclear how much the couple was scammed out of, but the children described the loss as "absolutely devastating. It’s more than financial — it’s emotional, it’s spiritual, and it’s shaken their and our sense of safety in the world."
"They are heartbroken and even embarrassed, but they shouldn't be. These scams are designed to be convincing, and sadly, no one is immune. If it could happen to them, it could happen to anyone. No one deserves this, least of all two kindhearted people who gave so much to others. At a stage in life when they should be enjoying peace and security, they are instead facing uncertainty," according to the GoFundMe.
The fundraiser launched two days ago has already raised more than $10,000 towards the $75,000 goal.
"Our parents have spent their lives giving to others. Now, we hope others can give something back to them. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your compassion, generosity, and support during this incredibly difficult time," according to the GoFundMe.
