2 Motorcyclists Ejected After Crashing Into SUV On Route 22 In Somerset County
Both motorcyclists were taken to Robert Johnson New Brunswick Trauma Center on Sunday.
NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — Two motorcyclists are hospitalized after they were ejected when they crashed into the back of an SUV on Route 22 in North Plainfield on Sunday, said police.
Just before 6 p.m., a BMW X1 was driving on Route 22 East in the right lane about to exit the highway and enter the Costco parking lot, when she was hit from behind by a Kawasaki EX5 motorcycle, according to a North Plainfield Police report.
According to the BMW driver, the motorcycle was part of about four to five motorcycles that were driving in a group driving recklessly on Route 22 East.

"The group of motorcycles were driving in between vehicles and also improperly passing on the shoulder of Route 22 East," according to the report.
The BMW driver said that she was in the process of getting onto the access ramp to Costco when the motorcycle hit her vehicle in the back.

The motorcycle driver, Justin Leone, 35, of Piscataway, was ejected from his motorcycle and ended up on top of the BMW, according to the report.
The other motorcycle passenger, Alexas Monroy, was also ejected from the motorcycle. Both were treated by North Plainfield EMTs and Paramedics and then taken to Robert Johnson New Brunswick Trauma Center.
Two other witnesses came forward and said they were both on Route 22 East behind the BMW when the motorcycle tried to pass them on the shoulder and then crashed into the BMW, according to the report.
Leone was mailed additional motor vehicle summonses for following too closely and improper passing.
