21-Year-Old Bicyclist Hit By Car, Injured At Route 22 Intersection In Somerset County

The bicyclist was taken to a hospital following the crash on Tuesday morning.

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A 21-year-old bicyclist was hit by a car and sent to a hospital at a Route 22 intersection in North Plainfield on Tuesday morning.

At 8:33 a.m., a man riding a Schwinn bicycle was hit on Route 22 and Wilson Avenue, said North Plainfield Lt. William Speck.

A brown Honda Civic was driving south on Wilson Avenue and tried to make a left turn onto Route 22 when the driver hit the bicyclist in the intersection, said Speck.

The Honda driver reported a sun glare issue as to why he did not see the bicyclist, said Speck.

The bicyclist had leg, shoulder pain, and a head injury and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson, New Brunswick.

The Honda driver was issued summonses for careless driving and having an uninsured vehicle
