Green Brook, Watchung Voters Set November Ballots

With few contests to be resolved, local turnout is low.

Green Brook and Watchung voters had an opportunity to show their show suport for their candidates in Tuesday's primary election, but with little drama to the balloting, the turnout was under 7 percent in each town.

A total of 287 Watchung voters particpated, 6.58 percent of the borough's registered voters, with 242 Republican coming out to support the local candidates for the Borough Council, William Nehls (who received 207 votes), Deanna Beck-Clemens (210) and Robert Gibbs (213), as well as Mayor Steven Pote, who received 217 votes. No Democrats filed for the local races.

Gov. Chris Christie captured the most votes in Watchung, with 227, dropping only nine local votes to challenger Seth Grossman.

In Green Brook, a total of 279 voters turned out, representing just over six percent of registered voters. The top candidate in Green Brook was Sheriff Frank Provenzano, who received 192 votes. 

Neither party's township committee candidate was challenged, with Republican Jerry Searfoss picking up 189 votes and Democrat David Breen getting 84.
