'Kai the Hitchhiker' Charged in Green Brook Attorney's Death

Planning Board attorney Joseph Galfy was found dead in his Clark home.

Authorities have arrested an Internet celebrity they believe may have been involved with the death of Joseph Galfy Jr., a Clark resident and attorney to the Green Brook Planning Board.

Galfy, 73, was found dead in his home on Starlite Drive on Monday when officers were called to the scene on a welfare check. The following day, an autopsy was performed and it was concluded that Galfy died of blunt force trauma, according to authorities. He was found in his bedroom severely beaten.

Galfy was born in Newark and has lived in Clark for the past 15 years, according to his obituary. Galfy's brother and his wife live in Warren.

A funeral will be held for Galfy on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung. Galfy will be buried at Gate of Heavens Cemetery in East Hanover.

The man accused of killing Galfy, Caleb Lawrence McGillvary, 24, also known as Kai the Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker, became an Internet sensation last year after he beat a man who was attempting to attack a woman in California.

Bail has been set at $3 million for McGillvary, who will be sent to the Union County jail in Elizabeth.
