Somerset County Crime Stoppers Offers Reward In Fatal Hit-and-Run

A 75-year-old man was killed in Somerville on Friday, March 6.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Timothy M. Fitzgerald and Somerville Borough Chief of Police Dennis Manning announced the investigation into last week’s fatal hit-and-run is ongoing.

At 9:25 p.m. on March 6, George Kavanaugh, 75, of Somerville, was standing on the sidewalk outside the firehouse waiting for a ride from a friend. While waiting, he was struck by a light-colored vehicle that had been “idling” and parked in the area in front of the the Lincoln Hose Firehouse, 34 Warren St., between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Kavanaugh was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he lated died from his injuries, the prosecutor’s office said.

According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, the county Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 cash reward for information that will assist with identifying the owner or operator of the “idling” vehicle that was parked in front of the firehouse.
