2 Charged In Passaic County Shooting That Killed Man, 44: Prosecutor

A man and a woman face charges including conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

PATERSON, NJ — A man has been charged with murder and a woman faces a conspiracy to commit murder charge with the shooting death of a 44-year-old Paterson man earlier this month, officials said.

Paterson Police were called to the area of Chadwick Street and Weiss Street for a reported shooting, just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 2. Officers learned that the victim, Twahee Howard, had already arrived at Saint Joseph's University Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds.

Medical officials later pronounced Howard dead, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson PD Officer-In-Charge Isa Abbassi in a statement.

Investigators with the Paterson Police Department later identified 27-year-old Mathew Amaro and 26-year-old Tiffany Medina as suspects in the shooting, said officials, who did not elaborate.

Both were arrested on June 10.

Officials charged Amaro with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful possession of a handgun. He also faces second-degree charges of possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun, along with a third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance charge.

Medina faces a first-degree charge of conspiracy to commit murder and a third-degree charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
