Cops: Man Had 'Several' Bags of Heroin Behind La Quinta Hotel

Dwayne Phillips was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wayne Police arrested a man who was allegedly in possession of “several” glassine bags of heroin at the back of the La Quinta Hotel.

A Wayne Police Officer assigned to the “Uniformed Enforcement Unit” was patrolling the Route 23 corridor business parking lots when he observed a passenger, who was in an occupied white vehicle in the rear of the La Quinta Hotel, holding glassine bags of suspected heroin, Wayne Captain Laurence Martin said.

The passenger, identified as Dwayne Phillips of Vernon, ”was removed from the vehicle and surrendered several glassine bags stamped ’Starbucks’,” according to Captain Martin.

Police also located a capped syringe and two partially opened glassine bags of heroin under the passenger seat after an unidentified female, who owned the vehicle, allowed police to conduct a search.

Phillips was placed in custody and was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police also discovered he had an outstanding warrant out of Kinnelon.

Phillips was released on summons complaint for the drug charges and turned over to Kinnelon Police for the warrant, Captain Martin said. No charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle.
