Cousin Charged With Murder After Deadly Fight, Passaic Prosecutor Says
Officials have charged a 22-year-old man with first-degree murder after finding his cousin dead in an apartment basement early Monday.

PATERSON, NJ — Officials have charged a 22-year-old Paterson man with first-degree murder, after his cousin was found dead after a reported fight early Monday morning.
First responders found 31-year-old Jose Estrada-Cruz unresponsive in a basement apartment just before 2 a.m. on April 1, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Department Officer-In- Charge Isa Abbassi. Officers had been dispatched to the area of Straight Street and 16th Avenue for a reported fight.
Authorities said the initial investigation identified the victim's cousin, Darwin Estrada-Cruz, as being responsible for his death, and he was arrested Monday.

Darwin Estrada-Cruz was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, and prosecutors have filed a motion for him to remain in jail pending trial.
