Family Of Wayne Man Killed By Blown Tire Sues: Report

WAYNE, NJ – The family of a Wayne man who died after being struck by a blown tire while riding his bike has filed a lawsuit against the driver and trucking company, according to a report.

Jim DeSalvo, 53, succumbed to his injures about two weeks after the Sept. 12 incident, which occurred when the truck’s tire wheel blew, detached and hit him while he was riding his bike on Black Oak Ridge Road.

A wrongful death suit was filed in Passaic County Superior Court Monday against the driver and DLS Contracting, seeking compensatory and punitive damages, NorthJersey.com reported.

No charges were filed against the driver of the truck, which was fully loaded with asphalt when the tire blew out, authorities said.

DeSalvo was a music producer who has worked with artists such as Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Yes lead singer Jon Anderson. He leaves behind a wife, Catherine, and two children, James and Rebecca, according to his obituary.

Following the accident, DeSalvo’s friends launched a GoFundMe to raise money for his recovery and family. As of Tuesday morning, more than $60,000 has been donated.
